filled with a rancid smell of foul potions, the dungeons of hogwarts are dimly lit. it's often been said that rats and spiders can be found dwelling in the darkness as well.

the main entrance to hogwarts school of witchcraft and wizardry opens up into this hall, which is home to the hourglasses that track the house points, as well as a broom cupboard.

a very busy place at many times of the day is the great hall, in which all meals are served. events such as balls and other ceremonies are also hosted here.

if you fall subject to a spell gone wrong, or else obtain an injury on the quidditch pitch, then hurry on up to the hospital wing to get sorted out. if the nurse can't handle it, then you'll be transferred to st. mungo's.

you can find many house elves hurrying around the room, preparing food for the staff and students at hogwarts. i'm sure they'd be more than happy to get you a light snack if you ask them nicely.

if there's a book that you're dying to read but don't have a copy of your own, have a look in the library and check with the librarian to see if you can borrow it.

deciphering runes is tricky and takes a lot of patience to learn but once you have learnt it can be very useful.

this is where you can learn about "the Seer's eye", and the future, just be careful about the grimm.

this is where you can learn all kinds of different plant species of the wizarding world.

this is where you can brew magical potions and learn about their properties.

a pleasant patch of grass with several benches around the outside is the school's courtyard, with corridors running around the outside, and a fountain in the centre.

a bridge forms a link between the grounds and the castle and, as the name suggests, is covered. it is often used in rain or shine, whether to keep dry or cool, or just to sit and chat.

the key word here is forbidden! no students are to enter the forest without a member of staff accompanying them. there are a lot of things hidden amongst the trees that wouldn't hesitate to kill a curious little first year, or anyone for that matter.

the school gamekeeper takes residence in a small-looking hut on the outside boundaries of the Hogwarts grounds. Don't let the size fool you though because the hut's interior has plenty of space for all sorts of furniture.

there are many greenhouses, ranging from calm plants all the way to the dangerous ones. Herbology classes are held in these greenhouses.

each house has a quidditch team of its own, and they regularly play games against each other to try and win the quidditch cup. this is where games and practices take place, as well as flying lessons. please note that lessons will not take place in this board

this place is always busy, both in the shops and out in the alley. think of an object. chances are you could buy it here, from books to broomsticks, and scales to spellotape.

believed to be the only settlement in britain that is home only to wizards, hogsmeade is a popular destination for hogwarts students, and so the school provides occasional trips to the village.

Sub-boards: dervish and banges, gladrags wizardwear, hogsmeade station, honeydukes sweetshop, madam puddifoot's tea room, scrivenshaft's quill shop, the hog's head, the post office, the shrieking shack, the three broomsticks, zonko's joke shop

not nearly as pleasant as its neighbour is knockturn alley, in which just as many shops can be found, though their stock is more likely to cause harm than that of diagon alley.

though it may sound like a division of the british government, it's actually a government in itself. led by the minister for magic, the ministry writes and upholds the laws of the wizarding world.

Sub-boards: minister for magic and support staff, department of magical law enforcement, department of magical accidents and catastrophes, department for the regulation and control of magical creatures, department of international magical co-operation, department of magical transportation, department of magical games and sports, the atrium , department of mysteries, wizengamot courtrooms

things don't always go as planned, and sometimes that can result in an injury. whatever the case, the healers here at st. mungo's will nurse you back to full health, or at least give it a go anyway.
